The Tiller handle allows for easy control of the Tiller by allowing you to have both hands free while controlling it, instead of being stuck leaning over one side with only one hand. In this article, we have explained the Tiller handle. Extending tiller handle, Locking Tiller Handles, and replacing a tiller handle card.
The Tiller handle allows for easy control of the Tiller by allowing you to have both hands free while controlling it, instead of being stuck leaning over one side with only one hand. It can be moved up/down or left/right depending on which side you move the Tiller handle to activate its respective movement.
This makes turning and maneuvering much easier and more precise than using just one arm to operate the Tiller. The Tiller may also be controlled with your feet; there is no other option, but Tiller handles are much easier to control. Tiller controls also have a Forklift brake/parking brake located on some Tiller controls and a few others, making Tilling safer and more precise.
It is an easy way to increase your Forklift's Performance and make Tilling 100% easier with two hands!
How do you extend a tiller handle?
Place your foot on the Tiller, so it does not move when extending it.
Take off the cap covering the "till lock nut."
Find where to put in your extension (make sure that hole fits through your new Tiller). You may need to sand down any rough edges.
Screw the tiller handle into the tiller head.
Replace tiller lock nut cap when finished.
How do you lock a tiller?
Make sure the Tiller is in a locked position. Unlock the Tiller by rotating it until it clicks off the tiller pinion, then rotate clockwise to release the tiller wheel.
Locate the tiller bar on the tiller wheel and secure it with a tiller lever. See the picture below for an example of the location of the tiller bar on the tiller wheel (it may vary depending on your motor). Uncouple tiller wheel from tiller bar by unscrewing bolt holding wheel to tiller handle.
Open the tiller handle to unlock the Tiller from the tiller bar by rotating the tiller handle counterclockwise until it cannot rotate anymore.
Locate tiller bar coupling on tiller wheel and secure with the bolt. Secure tiller lever in position by tightening bolt.
How to replace a Tiller Card?
Identify Tiller Handle
The first step in replacing a tiller handle is identifying exactly what kind of Tiller you have. While many different tillers require different parts, tiller cards only cover the general tiller styles, not specific models.
The second step is to determine what your tiller handle needs are. While most tiller handles will come with either a pull cord or a push-button starter, some tiller handles might require additional components such as an engine kill switch or a harness for control lines.
You must always identify what you need before purchasing, not spend money on unnecessary parts.
Once you have identified your Tiller's specific needs and fulfilled them, it is time to replace the old tiller handle with its new counterpart. This process can be more complicated than just popping out one tiller handle and inserting another, depending on the type of tiller handle you are replacing. Consult tiller cards to ensure that your Tiller has the right tiller handle installed correctly.
