Allis-Chalmers electric motors

Reading time: 4 min 29 sec.

Allis-Chalmers has been making machines since the 1840s. In 1914, they started making farm equipment, and now they make many products for industry needs like agriculture or construction machinery. Allis-Chalmers was having financial problems in the 1980s. One problem they had was that they were forced to sell their farm equipment division in 1985. Finally, in 1990, AGCO bought the rest of their assets, and from then, they took care of the production and manufacturing of this kind of equipment.

Even though the Allis-Chalmers company broke up, its forklift line is still popular, and its legacy lives on through AGCO.

Summary

Allis-Chalmers rebuilt motor is an excellent choice for anyone who needs to buy a new one for a forklift, and in LPW can be found what you need. Here are some reasons why it's a good one:

1) Cheaper than a new motor.

2) powerful and dependable.

Electric forklift motors

An electric motor changes electricity into movement. It happens because the engine uses magnets or coils to transform the electricity into different energy. The motor is like the heart of any machine that runs on electricity.

Electric motors are the most silent type of machine. For that reason they are commonly used in places where other engines would make too much noise. Often, they are used in forklifts for indoor activities. Another advantage is that electric motors not only are used for forklift motion, but also they can operate other parts of this industrial vehicle:

  • The electrical system.

  • A hydraulic pump.

Forklift motors components

The main parts of an electric motor are the following:

  • Rotor: The rotor is the part of an electric motor that rotates when electricity is added. It converts the electricity into mechanical force. The rotor has conductive materials that are attracted to a magnetic field.

  • Stator: The stator is a stationary part of the electrical motor. The stator is made of magnets that are arranged together to form a cylinder shape.

  • Bearing: The purpose of a bearing in an electric motor is to keep the air gap between the stator and rotor. The bearings also support the shaft, so it moves smoothly.

  • Shaft: It is a rotating part of the motor that transmits mechanical energy to other forklift parts.

The rest of the electric motor parts are shown in figure 2.

How a forklift electric motor works

The first thing you need to know about these motors is that they all have magnetism as their base - usually, magnets create an electromagnetic field in some form or another. The current comes from industrial batteries and flows through the coil.

A coil is the simplest way to make a temporary magnetic field. When you put together two magnetic poles, they either attract or push away. The magnet poles are changed by reversing the current in the coils. It makes the rotor move in a circle and causes the shaft rotation.

The following video explains with more details about the forklift electric motor operation:

The electric motors can be classified into AC or DC motors. One of the differences between these motor types is their power sources. An AC motor works with an alternating current, while a DC motor needs batteries or a converter.

Varying frequencies control an AC motor. To do this, you need an adjustable drive control. On the other hand, DC motors are controlled by a variation in their armature winding current.

Common problems

Motor short circuits are one of the most dangerous forms of an electrical ground fault, and many factors can cause them. A short circuit can happen when wires touch each other. It may be because the insulation has been damaged, the cables are old, or exposed to heat, making an electrical spark.

Sometimes the voltage in the line is different. The voltage on one line is higher than another, and this can cause a motor to overheat. It can also lead to accelerated wear on other parts like bearings or insulation systems.

When an electric motor operates, it will produce heat. It is a normal part of the operation and should not worry you. But, if the motor overheats too much, it can get damaged. That can happen when the motor is doing too much work (overload), and the device's heat starts to wear out.

Allis-Chalmers rebuilt motors at Lift Parts Warehouse

At LPW, we offer a variety of rebuilt motors that are waiting for you. We know how important it is to find the correct motor in stock, so our inventory varies with what customers need!

The Allis-Chalmers rebuilt motors are cheaper than other brands and are a high-quality product. These motors are confident and durable when used in the most common forklifts. For example, we have the motor 4905947 and other models with higher efficiency as the 4908011. For the more demanding forklift, we have the rebuilt motor 4930968 and also the model 4800579.

It's essential to know the difference between repairing and rebuilding a motor. Repairing just fixes problems, but rebuilding is when you fully recondition a device to work as well as a new one. The process consists of replacing all the parts in it, which might be broken or just old. Rebuilt motors are an option if you need to replace the one damaged in your electric forklift with a meager budget.

Performance is just as important to us at LPW, and we know that a high-quality rebuild can help you get more out of your forklift. That's why our experts perform thorough tests on each motor before it goes to your hands, so there are no headaches or issues during operation time!

Takeaways

  • Allis-Chalmers started making farm equipment. Now they make machines for other purposes like construction or agriculture.

  • Electric motors are quieter than other machines and can be used when other machines make too much noise.

  • If one line has more voltage than the other, then this can cause a motor to overheat. It is one of the several problems that make an electric motor get damaged.

  • Lift Parts Warehouse has experts who know how to work on and fix things. They make sure that your rebuilt motor works well and runs smoothly.

If you need an Allis-Chalmers rebuilt motor, Lift Parts Warehouse is the best place to find one. You can call us or browse our website- whichever way is easiest for you. Either way, we will sell it to you at the low price that we always offer on all of our products.
