How the radiator hoses work
The radiator hoses are two, and they work as follow:
Upper-radiator hose: Its function is to receive the hot coolant from the engine body through a thermostat valve. The other extreme of this hose is connected to the upper radiator tank, where the fluid is delivered.
Lower-radiator hose: This hose connects the tank located at the bottom of the radiator with the water pump of the forklift cooling system. Through this hose, the coolant (with a low temperature) is pumped towards the engine body.
How to choose the correct forklift radiator hose
What hose do you need to replace?: The first thing we must ensure. The reason is that the upper and lower radiator hoses are not the same. Both hoses differ in their shape and dimensions (figure 2). Commonly, the lower radiator hose has a wound wire spring to avoid collapsing.
Type: According to its synthetic rubber composition, the hose will have some properties and temperature resistance. Table 1 has information about the hose types.

How to check the condition of the radiator hoses
Identify where the radiator hoses are. Generally, they are bigger than the other hose types and have a determined shape.
Touch the hoses and squeeze them to check the condition. They must have a certain flexibility and have springiness. A hose soft, weak, or brittle needs a replacement.
Check the condition of its respective clamps. If they are rusty, their replacement is recommended. This action assures the seal on the hose connection and its stability.

Common problems of a radiator hose
The below are the common problems why the radiator hose gets damaged:
Heat. A radiator hose handles the high temperatures of the coolant that little by little degrades its material. So, the hose's inside walls lose thickness and expand, creating pinhole cracks where coolant leaks.
The low clamp torque. It is another reason why a radiator hose presents leakages. This issue is pretty regular after installing a new radiator hose while the forklift engine is not cold down. It happens because the heat stimulates the expansion of the metal connections. The hose also expands, much more than the metal. The tightening of the clamp will be executed according to the expanded metal diameter. However, the metallic connection and hose will return to a smaller diameter when the engine cools off. It makes a tiny space appear between the hose and the connector. It causes the coolant to leak.
Electrochemical degradation. Electrical reactions occur between the coolant and metals of the cooling system. It creates an electrical charge in the fluid that degrades the inner side of the hoses. So, the hose becomes soft, or cracks appear inside.
Ozone concentration. The pollution increases the ozone quantity inside radiator hoses. It causes an internal crack, mostly in curves, inlet/outlet connections, and bends.
