What is a Wheel Cylinder

The wheel cylinder is a hydraulic cylinder that is a part of the drum brake assembly. There is one wheel cylinder in each wheel of your forklift. A wheel cylinder receives pressurized oil from the master cylinder.

When you depress the brake pedal, the pushrod pushes the piston in the master cylinder. As a result, the brake oil in the master cylinder is pressurized and this pressure reaches all wheel cylinders via hydraulic lines. This pressurized oil pushes the pistons inside the wheel cylinder. The pistons, in turn, push the brake shoes against the wheels and stops the forklift.
