Summary

Many Mitsubishi forklift models use carburetors to run. They are prevalent on those Mitsubishi lift truck models that use Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fuel. Carburetors are crucial devices for the proper functioning of these vehicles, and they have the advantage of being easy to conserve since they usually only require minor adjustments from time to time. But, like any other mechanical device, they must be changed when they wear out beyond repair. That is why it is crucial to learn how to judge when it's the right moment to do it. With this in mind, at Lift Parts Warehouse, we want to share a little more about how these devices work and the considerations you should take when buying their replacement.

What Does a Mitsubishi Forklift Carburetor Do?

Mitsubishi forklift carburetors, like many others of their kind, work under the same principle. The main function of a carburetor is to get the fuel and air mixed in the appropriate ratio. When this is accomplished in the right way, the mixture can be ignited as it should, and the engine's combustion process is activated. Most carburetor models are designed with the same shape, primarily a tube venturi with a throttle valve inside. This throttle valve, also known as the butterfly valve, controls the flow of air which passes through the tube.

The carburetor tube is known as "Venturi tube" because, at a certain point of the tube, its inner diameter is reduced to then be expanded again. This particular configuration allows the formation of a low-pressure zone in the narrow space. Thanks to this low-pressure zone, fuel can go from the fuel chamber to the inside of the venturi tube, where it will mix with air when the throttle valve opens.

What are the Main Parts of a Mitsubishi Forklift Carburetor?

Mitsubishi carburetors have the advantage of being easy to dismantle for maintenance. Its individual parts can be replaced without compromising the rest which extend the carburetor's lifespan considerably. You will only need to buy a new carburetor when the wear out as a whole is excessive. Below we will mention the most important parts that are part of a Mitsubishi carburetor and the function of each of them in the device.

  • Venturi Tube Body. The venturi tube is a tube with a particular shape. At some point of its length, its inner diameter is reduced and then comes back to its original side. This contraction forms a low pressure area that will suck the fuel from the fuel chamber when the throttle valve opens.
  • Float Chamber. This is where the fuel is stored before going into the Venturi tube to be mixed with air. The fuel level of the float chamber rises and falls with the level of fuel in the chamber.
  • The Float Needle Valve. It is what actually regulates the flow of fuel into the float chamber, and it is attached to the Buoy which goes up and down according to the fuel level on the float chamber.
  • Throttle Valve. It’s the valve which controls how much air flows into the engine. The throttle plate is opened and closed by the throttle cable.
  • The Choke plate. It has a similar shape to the throttle valve body, and also it’s attached to the throttle body. However it’s primarily placed after the Venturi contraction. It regulates how much fuel is drawn into the engine when cold starting.
  • Main Nozzle. It's a channel that communicates the float chamber with the venturi tube. The fuel will come out through the main nuzzle with the ideal proportion.
  • Slow Jet. It's from where the fuel passes when the engine is idle.
  • Idle mixture screw. It’s responsable to adjusting how much fuel is drawn into the engine at idle speed.

These are just some of the most important parts that are found in a Mitsubishi forklift carburetor. These parts work together to provide your Mitsubishi forklift with power and performance. If one of these parts begins to fail, it can cause your Mitsubishi forklift to lose power or performance. That's why it's important to regularly check each of these elements for wear or damage, and replace them if necessary. By doing so, you'll keep your Mitsubishi forklift running smoothly for years.

How Can You Tell if a Mitsubishi Forklift Carburetor is Failing

There are several symptoms that tell us when a carburetor may be failing

The carburetor is one of the most important parts of the Mitsubishi forklift, and it is responsible for mixing the air and fuel so that the engine can run smoothly. When the carb begins to wear out, it can cause several problems that will soon become noticeable. If your Mitsubishi forklift exhibits one or more of the following signs of failure, it is most likely due to an uncalibrated or bad carburetor. If you cannot judge whether or not your carb needs to be replaced, it is best to take it to a qualified mechanic for a deeper inspection.

  • Loss of power and poor engine performance.
  • Rough idling.
  • The Mitsubishi lift truck stalls constantly.
  • Difficulty starting the engine of the Mitsubishi lift truck.
  • Increase in the Mitsubishi forklift fuel consumption.
  • Dark smoke is coming out of the exhaust pipe of the Mitsubishi lift truck.

When is it Worth Repairing a Mitsubishi Forklift Carburetor?

Extend the lifespan of your Mitsubishi forklift carburetor by changing only the faulty parts

Mitsubishi forklift carburetors are long-lasting devices. This is mostly because their major parts can be replaced when they stop working well. If the cost of the spare parts and labor needed to reinstall it does not exceed 60% of the cost of a new Mitsubishi forklift carburetor, it is worth doing. If your faulty carb fails cost reference, then the best thing to do is replace it. With proper care and adjustments, a Mitsubishi forklift carburetor can last for years without much wear.
